From supporting young workers as they work to develop the skills and knowledge that will last a lifetime to providing the supports that seasoned workers need as they navigate life and career growth, Rambow is a company that recognizes knowledge sharing and mentorship as a critical element of workforce development for the industry.
“It’s about giving back to the industry that I love so much and has been so good to me.”
TRADES PROVIDE A STRONG BASE FOR FUTURE CAREER GROWTH
During our discussion Patrick spoke at great lengths about how entering the workforce in a trade can help people as they prepare to achieve future goals. With up to 70% of high school graduates postponing their entry into post-secondary education, the trades can be a great stepping stone for those wishing to gain work experience prior to carrying onto university or any additional training.
After attending a Skills Ready Showcase Event last year, Patrick connected a grade 9 student with a summer work opportunity on one of Rambow’s projects. She enjoyed the experience so much, she is returning to work for Rambow this summer – gaining apprenticeship hours, a solid wage, and also saving her earnings to eventually pay for her schooling to become a psychiatrist.
ADVICE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
Patrick encourages tradespeople to go for more than one trade and shared, “The Red Seal endorsement in Canada is recognized around the world and in many cases, your Red Seal is your ticket to a career around the world.”
Starting his career path in Northern Alberta where he first earned his red seal in plumbing and gained valuable experience as an estimator for Canadian Comstock, Patrick practices what he preaches, he continued on to earn Gold Seal Certificates in Supervision and Project Management, Red Seal Certification in Pipe Fitting and Steam Fitting, as well as Gas and Instrumentation tickets.
Patrick also volunteers his time in a number of ways and has been Chair of the British Columbia Construction Association, the Southern Interior Construction Association, the Trade Contractors Council for the Canadian Construction Association, and is a recipient of the Canadian Construction Association Community Leader Award.
Recognizing the importance of good education, Patrick has a long association with Okanagan College, serving as chair of the Program Advisory Committee, helping fundraise for the new Trades Complex in Kelowna, and being an active donor to the college and other community organizations.

As a result of this dedication to industry and community, he was presented the Honorary Fellow award by Okanagan College, one of their highest honors.
