All Roads participant Calvin seizing opportunity to create new life and career

October 30, 2023 (Fort St. John, BC) – All Roads participant Calvin is an inspiring example of how self-determination and commitment can lead to positive, life-changing career opportunities. With the support of CFBC’s All Roads program and a strong desire to improve the trajectory of his current situation, Calvin’s journey shows that that no barriers are too great with the right mindset, support system and skill sets.

Calvin has found himself working as a pipe fitter helper in the Fort St. John area for the past three months. He has been working consistently since obtaining six tickets acquired with the assistance of the All Roads learning catalyst Patsy Greyeyes, who has also provided guidance, resources, as well as personal and professional support.

Calvin’s journey has been one that required a large amount of self-determination and support. Traumatic incidents and a number of barriers could have left him in a much different position than he currently finds himself in, were it not for a genuine desire for self-improvement and a desire to succeed.

“Sometimes when you deal with a lot of trauma in your life, you just don’t make great choices for yourself,” said Greyeyes. “I’m so proud of him, he’s doing so well for himself…I remember a couple of weeks ago he messaged me and he was so happy when I checked in with him. He’s come a long way from where he was and overcome some major struggles.”

Calvin is embracing the help he received from Greyeyes and the change of pace resulting from consistent work in the oil field.

“She [Patsy] definitely helped me out a lot,” said Calvin. “And I’ve been pretty busy since I got those tickets with work here and stuff, so it’s been nice. It’s nice to be busy and today is my first day off in, like, three-and-a-half weeks.”

All Roads participants work alongside program catalysts and community supporters to develop individualized roadmaps that feature a unique makeup and identity specific to participant’s goals and objectives. Each roadmap shares a common objective to work with and alongside participants to successfully achieve their personal and professional goals. In the coming weeks, Calvin plans to establish additional career goals, allowing him to progress professionally.

“I am super proud of him because his life could have been in a much different place right now,” added Greyeyes. “But because of work and what he did for himself he’s in the place that he is now.”
