July 23, 2024 (Terrace, BC) – The Construction Foundation of BC’s (CFBC) latest Discover Trades Camp took place last week in Terrace, BC! The team worked with a dozen young women at K5T in the Kitselas First Nation, with participants getting an opportunity to try their hand at electrical, carpentry, plumbing, ironworking, sheet metal and tiling. The camp also featured sessions on training and apprenticeship opportunities, which resonated with several of the young women.

The July camp marked the second straight summer for CFBC’s Discover Trades Camp in Terrace and featured returning participants from last year who are now entering or continuing their apprenticeship in carpentry, electrical and welding.

“The camp was very exciting and had a different feel from our other camps, with participants ranging from Grade 10, all the way up to adults,” noted CFBC catalyst, Lisa Scott. “It was also the first time that we have included iron working in one of the Trade Camps and it was fantastic! Hard work, but super cool.”

CFBC would like to thank the amazing group of people and organizations who helped make the week a success. Stephany Vossen, Clarisa Spencer, Meghann Barsalou, Lexi Curry, and Trish Seal, Derek Dinzey at Iron Workers Local 97, Kevin Jeffery at the UA Piping Industry College of BC, the BC Centre for Women in the Trades, West Fraser, EECOL Electric, IBEW Local 993 and everyone at K5T.
