The Elementary Electrical: An Exploration of Currents and Volts workbook, published with the support of the Western Joint Electrical Training Society (Western JETS), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) 230, 993, 1003 and the Electrical Contractors Association of BC (ECABC) is now available online and in print.
Designed for elementary and middle school educators looking to explore core curriculum through applied learning, the Elementary Electrical workbook is designed to provide a resource for affordable electrical projects that can be introduced and taught with up to 24 students at a time.
“The projects in this book are an introduction to working with electricity and electrical careers,” said CFBC’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, Jordan Perrault. “They provide a hands-on approach to exploring math and science and discovering some of the tools that electricians and tradespeople use, while also having a little bit of fun.”
The Elementary Electrical workbook promotes affordable and accessible applied learning projects for the classroom. It does this through the use of tools of the trade and project-based learning for core subjects such as math, science and the Applied Design Skills and Technologies curriculum. The workbook also introduces career stories from professionals in the industry to share with students.
“The Elementary Electrical workbook is an exciting resource to ‘spark’ a kid’s interest in pursuing electrical career paths,” expressed Emilie Lane, Program Coordinator for the Western JETS. “We’ve seen a major culture shift in industry in recent years with great strides being made to support equity, diversity, and inclusion. The stigma of the trades being ‘Plan B’ for those who cannot attend university is sorely misinformed, and we need teachers’ and parents’ help to change that from an early age.”
