The Construction Foundation of BC is excited to share the inaugural Indigenous Skills Showcase through a series of interviews being promoted through the Skills/Competences Canada’s #CelebrateSkills digital experience today!
Over the past year, the Construction Foundation has partnered with Skills/Compétences Canada, their provincial organizations and a number of partners from across the country to produce an Indigenous Skills Showcase with the aim to increase awareness and participation of Indigenous youth at National and Provincial Competitions.
The Showcase, produced by Kaska-Tlingit artist Dean Heron, was to focus on the transfer of traditional skills and knowledge from Elders and experts to Indigenous youth. Infused in the process was the cross over relevance to potential careers in the skilled trades.
However, the current events have required alternative methods of compiling content together for this year’s Showcase – so over the past few weeks, the CFBC team has connected with First Nation professionals in Fashion, Culinary, Carving and Graphic Design to discuss their career paths and best advice for youth people considering career options in their field.
