LNG CANADA PROVIDES TRADES EQUIPMENT FOR THREE LOCAL SCHOOLS
Kitimat, BC – Three high schools in Northern BC have received $100,000 via Project Shop Class thanks to the generosity of LNG Canada. Project Shop Class is an initiative organized through the British Columbia Construction Association and the Construction Foundation of BC designed to help schools in BC revitalize their shop classes with new tools and equipment. The group held a short reception in the shop class of Mount Elizabeth Middle School to celebrate the funds given to Mount Elizabeth Middle School, Hazelton Secondary School and Veritas School.
“The BCCA created the Construction Foundation to tackle big impact projects for our industry,” observes Manley McLachlan, BCCA President. “What LNG Canada has contributed through Project Shop Class is right on track: tangible improvements to the trades training experience that benefit BC students, their future employers, and ultimately our provincial economy.”
“LNG Canada is pleased to provide young people the opportunity to gain first-hand experience with equipment and tools related to careers in the trades,” says Tracey Mackinnon, Workforce Development Manager, LNG Canada. “The apprentice journey is one LNG Canada encourages young people to consider and explore, as there is a critical need for a skilled group of tradespeople in British Columbia,” she added.
“Over the last several years our school district has worked to establish and increase the variety of career trades experiences available to our students in Coast Mountains School District 82” stated Katherine McIntosh, Superintendent of Schools. The generous donation from LNG Canada through the Construction Foundation of BC’s “Project Shop Class” will go a long way to support these initiatives.”
In 2015, BCs construction sector employed over 201,000 people and contributed 8.2% to BCs GDP, making it a strong industry for youth to consider as they plan for the future. LNG Canada’s support of Project Shop Class enables young British Columbians to develop practical skills and encourages students to pursue careers in the skilled trades.

About LNG Canada
LNG Canada is a joint venture company comprised of Shell Canada Energy (50%), an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell plc, and affiliates of PetroChina (20%), Korea Gas Corporation (15%) and Mitsubishi Corporation (15%). The joint venture is proposing to build an LNG export facility in Kitimat that initially consists of two LNG processing units referred to as “trains,” each with the capacity to produce 6.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG annually, with an option to expand the project in the future to four trains.
