At the Construction Foundation of BC, we believe in the power of community-driven support to open doors for the next generation of skilled trades professionals. That’s why we’re proud to highlight the success of a recent grant through the SICA Community Fund, awarded to the Okanagan School District in support of its Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Dual Credit Program.
Thanks to this $20,000 contribution, 16 high school students from across the district received hands-on training with full-size equipment including excavators, bulldozers, rock trucks, and loaders. Delivered in partnership with Thompson Rivers University, the program enabled students to earn industry-recognized certifications—giving them a head start in high-demand, high-paying careers in the heavy construction sector.
This funding helped remove financial barriers, covered equipment and safety costs, and ensured that students received quality instruction in a safe, supportive environment. Several students have already secured job offers, while others are actively exploring opportunities in the industry.
With growing demand from both students and employers, the HEO Program is set to return next year, continuing to build pathways into the trades for youth in the Southern Interior.
The SICA Community Fund was established by the Construction Foundation of BC to support community-focused training and education initiatives across the Southern Interior region.
