The Construction Foundation of BC celebrated the official kick off of 2019’s National Trades and Technology Week (NSTTW) at the November 5th launch at BCIT with over 500 youth participants!
CFBC’s Try-A-Trade booth featured a unique and engaging workshop; participants discussed graphic design technology and tried their hand at silk screening. The design, developed by our Indigenous Communities Career Catalyst, Dean Heron, created traditional depictions of the frog and provided an opportunity for students from across the lower mainland to connect with a trade opportunity connected with traditional Indigenous art.
“We are pleased to be a part of the official launch of this year’s Skilled Trades and Technology Week,” shared Abigail Fulton, Executive Director of the Construction Foundation and current Vice President of Skills Canada BC. “The Try-A-Trade event is the perfect opportunity for us to share a unique trade experience and connect with the next generation of skilled worker.”
The overall goal of Skills Canada’s National Skilled Trades and Technology Week is “to get Canada’s youth to engage in projects/experiences involving skilled trades and technology, fostering conversations between industries, teachers and students.”
CFBC was one of several industry organizations who were present for the kick-off event. Activities will continue across the province for the entire week!
