Shift Fund removes roadblocks for young refugee to get driver training

Sadaat relocated to Canada from Afghanistan, in 2018. At the time, he was still under 19 and was connected to the Ministry of Child and Families Development which helped to support him during his transition to life in Canada. Sadaat’s youth worker, Mohamed, was instrumental in helping him to navigate life in the lower mainland and find resources to help him settle into Canadian life.

Together, Sadaat and Mohamed worked on an application to CFBC’s SHIFT Driver’s Training Fund and Sadaat was very happy to learn he had obtained a $1500 grant to pay for driver training. Three months of one-on-one driver’s training provided the time he needed to become a confident and safe driver in the city and obtain his licence.

Sadaat now has more time on his hands to be able to travel around on his own. His busy schedule includes work, college courses, and social activities around the lower mainland. Additionally, Sadaat has a range of employment opportunities, as he can now apply for positions that require a driver’s licence.

Congratulations Sadaat!
