HOULE ELECTRIC PROVIDES FUNDING FOR BRITANNIA SECONDARY SHOP CLASS
Vancouver, BC – Britannia Secondary School Shop Classes have received a $10,000 donation thanks to the generosity and support of Houle Electric. The donation was given via the Construction Foundation of BC’s Project Shop Class initiative, designed to aid BC schools to revitalize their shop classes with new tools and equipment.
“I am proud to state that I attended Britannia from grade 7 to grade 12,” stated Robert Lashin, President of Houle Electric. “I have endless gratitude to the teachers that inspired us to see beyond our immediate challenges and see instead a bright future of endless possibilities.”
“Partnerships between schools and industry occur in various ways – work experience placements, career fairs, job shadows, business simulations,” says Andrew Schofield, Principal of Britannia Secondary School. “This generous donation will keep Britannia at the forefront of trades and technology education in the district and will enhance our goal of being a technology and innovation focused public school.”
In 2015, BCs construction sector employed over 201,000 people and contributed 8.2% to BCs GDP, making it a strong industry for youth to consider as they plan for the future. Industry support of Project Shop Class enables young British Columbians to develop practical skills and encourages students to pursue careers in the skilled trades.
“We are thrilled to provide a mechanism for industry and educators to connect and support each other in new ways,” says Abigail Fulton, Executive Director of the Construction Foundation of BC. Since the start of our Project Shop Class Initiative, we have raised over $3M for provincial high school shop classes and look forward to continuing to grow industry support for high schools and the next generation of industry leaders.”
