HERE FOR GOOD: Maple Reinders

At the Construction Foundation of BC, we are fortunate to connect with amazing individuals and companies who are dedicated to enhancing the communities in which they live and work.

Maple Reinders consistently gives back to the communities in which they live and work in a variety of forms. However, the commitment to giving back goes deeper than most and it is entrenched through all levels of the organization. We spoke with Phil Long of the Kelowna branch to learn more.

A CULTURE OF GIVING

The culture of Maple Reinders starts at the top, through the ranks of top management and to the provincial working groups led by our Regional Managers. Our values are not just rhetoric but are what we actually practice and in turn are supported by the company. High ethical values and integrity are at our core – caring and community involvement is simply engrained in the type of people that Maple Reinders attracts.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES

Our leadership group cares about how we make a living and believes that we receive as much as we give. Our lives in the communities in which we live are enriched by all that its members contribute. We are all affected by what others do and as an organization, we believe that we should all do our part in making life better for all people. Maple Reinders has always followed the basic premise that we treat people the way the we want to be treated.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The people at Maple Reinders are active in so many ways not just in our own communities but across Canada and also internationally. We are active in numerous fundraising activities such as BBQ’s and the Big Bike Ride for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ride to Conquer Cancer, hockey and soccer tournaments for Ronald MacDonald House, Canstruction projects, Adopt a Family in Need at Christmas, Girl Guides and Scouts Canada, Relay for Life in support of cancer research, Hockey 4 Sick Kids, Ride for Dad, Run for Wells, The Scott Mission, Habitat for Humanity…the list goes on.

Our extracurricular efforts are not restricted to fundraising, we also give back to the communities and our industry as well. Numerous staff members serve on not-for-profit boards that serve our industry. They also do a lot of volunteer work for children being involved with little league sports, Scouts and some team members have also dedicated their vacation time doing missionary work with people requiring help.

THE BENEFITS OF GIVING

The most significant benefit to us is the satisfaction that we get from helping others in need, but we also understand that money is important if you want to help more people. Contributing to the larger groups such as Heart & Stroke, cancer research and other national and international groups, allows great strides and progress that we all see. The small things are however, no less important to us. The letters of thanks that we receive at Christmas from helping single parent families have a happy Christmas are extremely emotional and meaningful.

WHERE IS MAPLE REINDERS GOING NEXT WITH REGARDS TO COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT?

The spirit of giving back is something that is engrained in the culture of our company and also its individual employees. A great company is simply the result of attracting great people. Our commitment to civic and environmental initiatives that help to sustain and support our communities across Canada is part of our belief that we should be of service to others, helping to build a better future and a better world.
