NEW WESTMINSTER, November 9, 2012 – The Construction Foundation of BC was officially launched today with the presentation of a $65,000 donation to New Westminster’s Honour House.
A new initiative of the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA), the Construction Foundation of BC was created to give the province’s construction industry a mechanism for making charitable contributions to support BC apprenticeship programs, industry research, and special projects, leaving a lasting legacy for all British Columbians.
The inaugural contribution recognizes the important work that Honour House does to support the Canadian Forces and emergency personnel at difficult times in their lives, and marks a new milestone in its relationship with the province’s construction industry.
“With the new Construction Foundation, the BCCA board has achieved a long-time goal: a mechanism for making sustained financial contributions from our member services revenue to directly support the future of the BC construction industry,” said BCCA President and CEO Manley McLachlan. “The Foundation is exactly what the name implies – a strong foundation from which to build a healthy future for this critical sector of BC’s economy. As builders, our members take pride in everything they produce, and the BCCA is extremely proud to have facilitated this new Foundation on their behalf.”
The $65000 contribution assists Honour House with the recent installation of a new elevator which will make the building more accessible for wheelchairs and gurneys.
“This place has new stories every day,” noted Honour House Society Director Larry Kerr, “and overall, one major story. I emphasize that it is because of the construction industry who came to the fore. This house is a four-storey building which is now fully accessible, and we attribute that to the BCCA.”
Allan De Genova, the President and Director of the Honour House Society, continued: “We have a house nearly full today. The families here are very appreciative when they walk around, when they see and learn about the organizations who have helped and come together to make this home a reality. I can’t say enough.”
