Supporting skills training, education, and workforce development.
The Construction Foundation has supported a range of grant programs that helped strengthen skilled trades education, reduce barriers to participation, and create pathways into meaningful careers. These initiatives supported students, educators, schools, and young people while helping address workforce needs across the skilled trades sector.
Project Shop Class Grants
Project Shop Class Grants supported BC secondary schools that demonstrated a commitment to skilled trades education and industry collaboration.
Funding was available to schools that could show an active partnership with post-secondary institutions and industry, or a desire and capacity to develop innovative approaches that increased participation in shop and trades training.
By investing in shop programs, equipment, and learning opportunities, the grant helped schools create engaging, hands-on experiences that introduced students to careers in the skilled trades and construction sector.
SHIFT Fund
Between 2017 and 2025, the SHIFT Fund helped hundreds of at-risk youth reduce barriers and access the tools and training needed to successfully enter the skilled trades.
Through the SHIFT Driver Training Fund, eligible youth in care, youth transitioning from care, and youth identified as at risk could access support for driver’s licence training—an important step toward employment and career opportunities in many skilled trades occupations.
The program was made possible through the support of funding partners and helped participants gain greater independence, mobility, and access to training and employment opportunities.
